1,000 Books

We are so excited to be bringing the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten Program (www.1000booksbeforekindergarten.org) to you. This program encourages you and your child to read 1,000 books before they enter kindergarten.

You may read any book to your child or the same book multiple times. If you read just one book a night, you will have read 365 books in a year. That is 730 books in two years and 1,095 books in three years! Considering most children start kindergarten around the age of 5, you have plenty of time and this can be done at a pace that works for you and your family.

It’s simple to participate and fun, too! After you have signed up at the Children’s Reference Desk, pick out a few books to take home.  After reading a book cross off, or color, in a number on the sheet to bring back to the library and log the title on the sheet to keep at home. When you and your child have read 100 books, bring the colored sheet back to the library to claim your prize and pick up the next log. Once you have completed 1,000 books, your child will receive a completion certificate and have their picture taken to be displayed on our Wall of Readers.

Register in person at the Children’s Reference Desk!
We look forward to starting this reading journey with you.
