“WiFi” at WIPL
West Islip Library now offers wireless
Internet access ("WiFi") to all patrons. Bring
in your own
personal laptop or other mobile device and use our high-speed connection. It’s a great way to download
those big antivirus and/or Windows
update files that take so long over telephone connections. Come in and try it!.
We
use the normal WiFi standards (802.11b &
802.11g). Most users simply bring their wireless-enabled laptop computer into
the Library and turn it on. The computer must be set to obtain an IP address
automatically, and will then automatically attempt to connect to the wireless
network. (This is the default setting for most computers). To simplify access
for all users, our wireless network is openly accessible, and is NOT secure.
Because every computer is different,
library staff cannot help you configure your equipment, and we cannot guarantee
your device will work here, although most do with little or no system changes. We also
cannot be responsible for any changes you make to your computer's settings. If
you need additional assistance, please consult your computer’s manuals or
manufacturer.
At
this time, you cannot print from your wireless device. You must save your files
to a portable storage device and then use a library work-station to send your print
job to a printer. You may also choose to email the files to yourself for later
printing.
